ARTIST STATEMENT

I chose this as the theme for my work because the thought of a child being separated from his or her parents touched my heart. These children, many who are very young, do not understand what has happened. A child’s greatest fear is abandonment and I wonder how can anyone explained to them that their parents had no choice. I can only imagine the helplessness, panic and absolute terror both the children and parents are experiencing. Having these feelings is something no parent or child should experience. How can a child understand what adults cannot explain?
