I is the Immigration

I is the immigration, as we welcome

all— the poor and the tired.

Now policy trumps human decency,

with cages and barbed wire.

ARTIST STATEMENT

At the base of the Statue of Liberty is the inscription of Emma Lazarus’ words “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…” Millions of immigrant families have come to the United States over time seeking refuge with the hope and faith in the American dream. This piece depicts the tragic, diminishing value of these once prevailing words in the darkness of inhumane border policies.
